In 2003 beeldde Edit Kaldor een
knagend gevoel van digitale eenzaamheid uit in Or Press Escape. In 2016
begeeft de Hongaars-Amerikaanse theatermaakster zich in de woelige ondergrond
van het wereldwijde web. Met Web of Trust brengt Kaldor een sociaal
netwerk tot in de theaterzaal. Een ongelijksoortige groep mensen uit alle
hoeken van de wereld vindt elkaar in groeiende onvrede. Ze vormen een
wijdverspreide gemeenschap en vinden elkaar in hun verzet en overlevingsdrang.
Samen beramen ze een plan voor een radicaal andere samenleving. De voorstelling
navigeert door een virtuele ruimte waarin de deelnemers reële ideeën bedenken
voor een betere wereld. De hyperconnectiviteit bevrijdt en isoleert
tegelijkertijd. Web of Trust is indringend en zonder meer vernieuwend
theater, van het beeldscherm naar de wereld.

Edit Kaldor avait dépeint un sentiment lancinant de solitude digitale. En 2016,
la metteuse en scène hongro-américaine parcourt les territoires obscurs de la
toile mondiale. Avec Web of Trust, elle transporte un réseau social dans
la salle de théâtre. Un groupe hétéroclite de participants vivant aux quatre
coins du monde sont rassemblés par leur mécontentement grondant. Ils forment une vaste communauté
d’individus guidés par la contestation et l’instinct de survie. Ensemble, il
élaborent une feuille de route pour une société différente. Le spectacle
navigue dans un espace virtuel ou des personnes réelles, a la fois libérées et
isolées par l’hyperconnectivité, tentent d’imaginer des solutions pour un monde
meilleur. Combien de clics, de tweets et de likes faut-il pour allumer une
révolution ? Web of Trust est un théâtre 2.0, profondément innovant, qui
circule de l’écran vers le monde.

In 2003, Edit Kaldor portrayed the
gnawing feel of digital loneliness in Or Press Escape. In 2016, the
Hungarian-American theatre maker enters the seething underground of the
worldwide web. With Web of Trust, Kaldor brings a social network into
the theatre. A disparate group of people from all corners of the world find
each other increasingly discontent. They form a widespread community and
interact through their resistance and survival instinct. Together they
forge a plan for a radically different society. The performance
navigates through a virtual space where the participants initiate real
ideas for a better world. The hyperconnectivity liberates and isolates
at the same time. Web of Trust is penetrative and no doubt innovative
theatre, from the display screen to the world.
